ETI proud to sponsor WA Cultural Diversity Training Award
The Electrotechnology Training Institute is proud to sponsor the Western Australian Cultural Diversity Training Award, recognising the contribution culturally and linguistically diverse students make to Western Australia’s vocational education and training sector.
Part of the WA Training Awards, the category celebrates students who have migrated to Australia and used training to build skills, confidence, career pathways and stronger connections with their community. The award recognises culturally and linguistically diverse students who demonstrate an understanding of the vocational education and training system, and the importance of lifelong learning for themselves and the migrant community.
For ETI, supporting the award reflects the organisation’s broader commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive and more sustainable electrical industry.
ETI is a Western Australian not-for-profit charity working across education, training, workforce services, membership and advocacy. Through its specialist business units, including ECA WA, Electrical Group Training, the College of Electrical Training, and Equip-Safe, ETI supports apprentices, electrical workers, contractors and businesses across the state.
CEO of ETI Carl Copeland says the award highlighted the important role training plays in opening pathways into industry.
“Training changes lives,” Mr Copeland says.
“It gives people skills, confidence and a pathway into meaningful work. For people building a future in a new country, that opportunity can be especially powerful. The electrical industry needs people from different backgrounds, with different experiences and different perspectives. That diversity makes our industry stronger.”
The award asks applicants to reflect not only on their career and study achievements, but also on their communication skills, teamwork, community contribution and ability to act as an ambassador for training in Western Australia.
At ETI, we believe those qualities are central to the future of the electrical industry.
Western Australia’s energy sector is changing rapidly, with growing demand for skilled workers across construction, infrastructure, renewables, resources, maintenance, safety and clean energy technologies. Meeting that demand will require industry to attract and support people from a broader range of backgrounds.
We believe Industry needs not just skilled people, but also needs resilient people.
“This award recognises students who have worked hard, adapted, contributed and shown what vocational training can make possible. Cultural diversity is a strength. In our industry, different backgrounds bring new ideas, stronger teams and better workplaces.” Says Mr Copeland.
Mr Copeland says programs and awards that improve access to training are essential to the long-term strength of the industry.
“If we want a sustainable workforce, we need to make sure people can see a place for themselves in this industry,” he said. “That means recognising talent wherever it comes from, and making sure training pathways are practical, visible and supported.”
Through its sponsorship of the Western Australian Cultural Diversity Training Award, ETI is proud to help recognise students whose training journeys demonstrate ambition, persistence, and community impact.
The award is not simply about celebrating individual achievement. It is also a reminder that industry is stronger when more people can access opportunity, build skills and contribute to Western Australia’s future workforce.
The future of our industry will be built by people from many different backgrounds. Our role is to help make sure those pathways are open.
