The Work Health and Safety Team at the Electrotechnology Training Institute (ETI) has achieved outstanding results in advancing workplace safety and fostering a culture of continuous improvement — culminating in their recent Leadership and Achievement Award win at this year’s WHS Awards.

Since 2022, the team has delivered measurable progress across key performance indicators, reflecting their dedication to maintaining a safe, compliant, and proactive working environment.

  • Audit scores rose from 96.4 % to 97.18 %, demonstrating continued refinement of ETI’s compliance framework and the effectiveness of its safety systems.
  • Employer and apprentice engagement in safety initiatives has grown, highlighting a stronger organisation-wide commitment to health and safety.
  • The Lost Time Injury (LTI) index dropped from 1.00 to 0.00, with no time lost due to injury during the reporting period.
  • The Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) decreased dramatically from 34.86 to 11.20, representing a substantial decline in incidents.

These results underscore the WHS Team’s leadership and dedication to ETI’s No Harm philosophy — ensuring safety isn’t just a compliance measure, but a shared value embedded across every division: ECA WA, CET, EGT, and Equip-Safe.

Not only this, but it also proves that our safety initiatives are resonating the our apprentices, our host employers, and the wider industry. It shows that ETI is embarking on, and acheiving, real, tangible change within our industry - for the betterment of evereyone in it.

In recognition of these achievements, earlier in the year, the team also received the Platinum Audit Award 2025, a testament to their commitment to safety excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

“Our WHS Team — Matt Blampey, Jumaine Sewell, and Sue Gismondi — embody what true safety leadership looks like,” said ETI CEO Carl Copeland.

“Their efforts have strengthened not just ETI’s systems, but the safety culture of our entire industry.”
